If you have a very strong desire to become a career artist, duCret School of Art is the place to gain your foundational and business skills. As NJ's oldest art school, you will be training under active and full time professional artists whose background training has emerged from legendary icons such as: Norman Rockwell, James Bama (Saturday Evening Post, Argosy, Reader's Digest), The Hildebrandt Brothers (Tolkien/Marvel), Joe deVito (Jurassic Park 2, The Lost World, Batman Forever) just to name a few.
To receive training from such a large cache of professional artists residing all under one roof, at this level of mastery is unheard of in this day and age - as the rare experience of being personally mentored has all but become a lost art itself. But at duCret, the path of master artist mentoring emerging artist is the only path of study one can take. It is the way that art's great history carries on.

THE 3 YEAR F/T ART CAREER PROGRAM
The 3 Year Full Time Certificate Program consists of a first year, where students develop their foundational skills and in years two and three, students focus on specialty areas of art. There is a Fall Semester of 15 weeks and a Spring Semester of 15 weeks with a winter break in the month of January. There are four Majors to choose from: Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, and a two year Interior Design Program.

The Part Time Certificate Program requires that a student must take a minimum of five classes per semester. Though it will take longer to complete the three year professional art education program, Part Time students enrolled in the accredited program will follow the same course schedules as Full Time students. THE CLASS-AT-A-TIME PROGRAM Anyone can take any of the art classes offered in the 3 year art career program, one class at a time or two or more classes a week. Some art classes are offered on week nights and Saturday mornings. This program is excellent for adults seeking an ultimate career shift, senior citizens, veterans, and high school juniors and seniors 16+. Those signing up for one class at a time do not need to go through the full standard admissions process and can sign up as classes are offered. The Foundation Year (1st Year)
The Foundation Year is an exploration of techniques, ideas, and the visual vocabulary of artists and designers. Although the work in each of the major areas of study involves specialized courses, the same basic principles of art apply. The objective of the Foundation Year is to provide the basic principles, giving a solid background of art fundamentals and techniques upon which to build an education as a professional artist or designer. The techniques and conceptual and visual skills that are developed in the Foundation Year will prepare the student for advanced study in their major.
Years Two and Three
The second and third years are geared toward helping students find their unique path and voice, and focuses on the ultimate direction each artist will take as professionals. This includes specialized training in their field of choice, portfolio development, additional show and gallery participation, public speaking engagements, and the business-of-art training.

MAJOR: Fine Art Program
The objective of the Fine Art Program is to provide the student with the opportunity to study in a wide variety of media and techniques. The development of perception and conceptual skills in order to express an artistic idea based on personal experience is emphasized throughout this program. Students move from introductory to advanced level courses in drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, silkscreen, sculpture and stained glass and may choose to concentrate in one or more of these areas. A graduate in the fine art program will have the necessary skills to begin a career as a fine artist and work at an entry level in a gallery, frame shop, or stained glass studio, or as an artist’s assistant, fine art instructor, or portrait artist. The fine art program at duCret may also serve as an excellent stepping stone for those interested in continuing their studies at an advanced level.

Graphic Design presents many exiting opportunities in an increasingly complex visual environment. The object of the graphic design program is to provide the student with the traditional techniques, visual theory, and computer technology for career possibilities as designers and art directors in the area of visual communication. The classroom experience is geared to prepare the student with skills necessary to execute assignments in layout, design, and typography, and to prepare visual media for print. Additionally, the students are also guided in the preparation of professional quality portfolio samples that will prepare the graduate for entry level into the graphic design field working in design studios, advertising agencies, newspapers, television, corporate and retail art departments, and printing firms and publishers, as well as being self-employed freelance designers. In years two and three, students are introduced to clients and are offered 'real jobs' to work on while in class, thus enabling students the 'real life experience' of business transactions, client liaisons, budgets, show and competition preparation and deadlines.

The art of Illustration, so widely used in books and magazines, is also used in advertising, television and in promotional material for agencies and studios. A highly competitive major, illustration requires the development of strong skills in drawing and painting in a variety of media and techniques. The student will be encouraged to develop the technical and conceptual skills necessary to prepare professional quality portfolio samples needed to embark on a career as an illustrator. The prescribed program includes drawing, painting, composition, life drawing and courses in computer technology and digital illustration. The creative and technical skills acquired and developed in the illustration program will enable graduates to work as entry level illustrators for magazines, books, editorial illustration, advertising, posters, and institutional illustration. In years two and three, students are introduced to clients and are offered 'real jobs' to work on while in class, thus enabling students the 'real life experience' of business transactions, client liaisons, budgets, show and competition preparation and deadlines.

The art of Interior Design is a brand new program at duCret School of Art. It is a vast and complex industry booming with opportunities for young and emerging designers. In this program students will learn all aspects of the industry including; designing from concept, room remodeling, materials & textiles, furniture and lighting, flooring and the business of Interior Design. Classroom experience can include trips to local vendors in the industry; such as lighting showrooms, furniture stores and NYC textile stores.
PREPARATION FOR AFTER GRADUATION
Additionally, duCret School of Art prepares the students for the professional execution of their chosen fields all throughout years two and three through Business of Art Training and it's Alumni Based Continuing Support Center.
THE BUSINESS OF ART
Throughout the three year program and starting as soon as first semester in their first year, students are required to actively submit artwork and participate in all duCret shows and exhibitions. These include off location exhibits as well. Throughout the year students are offered opportunities to work on job requests submitted by local businesses of the area, as part of a business-student exchange program. This enables students to build their portfolios based on real jobs and to develop future client relations. Nearing graduation students must present their entire portfolios to the student body and their families, declaring their chosen career path and future plans to pursue their careers. Award winners of the Annual Spring Art Show are featured during the summer at Swain's Art Gallery, (NJ's oldest retail art establishment) with an opening reception to present the emerging artists. Throughout the year, students have access to facility labs and can participate in Open Studios, giving them additional time to create.
CONTINUING SUPPORT
As duCret is a community resource center with a 'family style' atmosphere, the 3 year bond created between master artisan faculty members and emerging new alumni is encouraged well beyond graduation date. Alumni can be featured on duCret website and are invited each and every year to submit for exhibitions and shows, thus enabling them a strong after-career support system and an exclusive and prominent artist's haven to remain a part of.
